WHAT IS LEVEL 2 ELECTRICAL WORK?

A level 2 electrical work is a combination of certification and knowledge that a contractor will need in order to make the connection between your home or building and the energy provider’s network. Level 2 electrical work is to make the connection between you and the network that the energy providers own. The network is referred to by people as power poles or power lines. A level 2 electrician has to link both consumers and the network in a way that is deemed compliant.

WHAT IS A LEVEL 2 ELECTRICIAN?

A level 2 Electrician is an authorised electrician also known as a Level 2 ASP. A level 2 electrician can physically make the connection between consumers and to the network (from your property to the pole), where a normal electrician can’t.

WHAT IS AN ASP?

An ASP is an electrical contractor that is authorised to connect consumers to the network from your property to the pole, where a normal electrician is not authorised.

WHAT IS AN ELECTRICAL DEFECT NOTICE?

An electrical defect notice is a notice issued to a homeowner indicating that their electrical installations do not comply with the safety standards and needs to be corrected by an authorised level 2 electrician.

All connections to electricity networks must comply with safety standards. New or existing connections and can also be issued with a defect notification to customers and/or electrical contractors for electrical installations that do not comply with safety standards.

You are expected to have the problem attended to and rectified by a qualified electrical technician within 21 Days.
Any defects that are not repaired within 21 days after notification may result in the electricity supply to the property being disconnected until repairs are completed to safety and service standards.

If your original contractor is unable to carry out the repairs, it is the customer’s responsibility to engage another qualified electrical contractor for the work.
